Gus shooting his rifle. He set up his target at 100 yards. He later told me that back in New Mexico he would sometimes shoot targets at 1000 yards (more than half a mile!).

After 2 rounds of shooting targets, Bryan recommended going to the traps to shoot the shotguns because he said that we be more fun. He was right! I shot 2 rounds of traps (25 traps each). The first time, I used Wayne's smaller shotgun and only hit 11 traps, good enough for my very first round, but pretty poor. One of the other members of the club gave me some tips on where to initially aim the shotgun based on which station I was at. For my second round, I shot the bigger shotgun, I followed his advice and I did much, much better - I shot 20 of 25 traps (copy of scorecard below. I went 4 of 5 at each of the 5 stations). Pretty good!! There's definitely something satisfying about quickly hitting a moving target, pumping the shotgun to eject the spent shell, and watching a little smoke pour out of the chamber as I load another shell.

It was a fun time and interesting experience. Afterwards, we went to Wayne's house for a BBQ of titanic proportions (2 full sized grills working full time).

Bryan shooting traps (you can see one (it's orange), left middle of the picture). He shot an impressive 22 of 25.
