Day 1: Arrival at Sugarloaf Ranch
Andrea's was in trial this previous week so we knew she would be ready for some R&R this weekend. She booked us a cabin at the Sugarloaf Ranch just north of Calistoga. This is a 500 acre estate complete with a winery (Peter Michael winery). It was the offseason so the winery was not open (darn!), but it did mean that we just about had the whole estate to ourselves. We drove up after work on Friday. We arrived at the cabin at about 8:30. It was incredible, even at night. The cabin was next to a stream (had to cross the little bridge to get to it). There was a screen front porch (too cold to use) and the cabin was wonderful - 3 bedrooms (we stayed in the one upstairs), a fireplace, deck with barbeque grill, well furnished kitchen. There was also a kitty here to greet us. According to the guest book, her name was Max.

Day 2: R&R
Even though Max kept waking Andrea up through the night, she woke up before 8am ready to go. We went for a short morning walk. The property has about 3 miles of trails. We walked up to the lake, then back past our cabin again and over to the winery. We were walking towards the owner's house and met Herb who was the caretaker of the property

After our walk, we headed into Calistoga and had our morning coffee and scones at the Calistoga Roastery and then over to Puerto Vallarta mexican restaurant for an early lunch. We grabbed food for dinner at the grocery store and then headed back to the cabin. We took a nice little nap.

Before dinner, we took a little hike up to the vineyards. The vineyards were primarily for the Les Pavots wine (current release has a 96 rating in Wine Spectator).
