July 24: Our 1st anniversary was July 26 so we decided to spend the weekend in St. Helena. We stayed at the Deer Run Inn B&B on Spring Mountain. It's out in the woods and wewere in the cottage in the back. It was very quiet and secluded. We mostly napped and read and relaxed. We did venture down into town for dinner where we had a tasty meal at Tra Vigne.

July 25: We started off the day wine tasting at Pride, one of my favorite wineries. One of the nice things about living in northern california is that we never feel pressured to go to a lot of wineries since we can always come up. I've been going to Pride for years and still have quite a lot of their wine aging. We picked up some 2000 and 2002 Merlot, 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2000 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2002 Cabernet Franc, 2002 Syrah, 2002 and 2003 Viogner, and some of their dessert wine, Mistelle de Viogner (see our wine list). As you can see, we love their wines! After the crowds disappeared, they brought us back into the cellars for some barrel tastings of their 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and their Petite Syrah. Can't wait for those to be released.

After wine tasting, we headed down to the Culinary Institute of America for lunch at the Wine Spectator Greystone Restaurant (pictures below). We had a flight of sparkling wine and of rose (below, right) since it was so hot. We started with some oysters (to go with the sparkling wine, of course). Andrea started with some seared foie gras and I had the sweetbreads. I told our waiter that it was the best internal organs we had all day. He seemed amused. Andrea thought I was weird, which I am.
