One of the many amazing things about living in the Bay Area is to be able to go to world class wine country on a whim. The day looked a bit gloomy in the city, so we went north where we were sure to catch some sun. Before hitting any wineries, we stopped at Bouchon, the sister restaurant to French Laundry for a nice lunch.

Silver Oak

Our first stop was Silver Oak. I had tried on 3 previous attempts and Andrea on 2 to do a tasting at Silver Oak, but they were closed all of those times. We finally were both finally able to do a tasting. After all of that, the winery and tasting room itself were nothing particularly special. Actually, there tasting bar is very small, but since they are a small producer, they don't need or want many visitors. We tasted both the 1997 Alexander Valley Cabernet as well as a port. Because it was so quiet there this weekend, they allowed us to purchase 3 bottles of the cab, which we each did. We both passed on the port. They also brought out some grapes from Soda Ash Canyon, which can be seen being unloaded in the pictures below.
