May 25: Crack 14

We had heard and read about a nice secluded beach used by locals known as Crack 14, but had lost our directions. Crack 14 is located a bit north of Donkey Beach. We ended hiked up and down the shore a bit and settled on an area with a small beach and a cove to go snorkeling. It was a bit late in the day (4:30pm) when we started so the light wasn't the best, but we did get to see a good variety of fish including the Hawaiian state fish, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. May 26: Kalalau Trail

We new that when we came to Kauai that we were going to have to hike the Kalalau Trail along the Na Pali coast. We had each done this on previous trips to Kauai. We were going to try to make it to Hanakoa Valley to see the falls, although that's a fairly ambitious 13-mile hike because of the terrain and we were still sick. The beach pictures below are at Hanakapi'ai Beach, where the first campground is located. We didn't make it all the way to Hanakoa Valley, but did make it about 4.5 miles along the trail.

Not surprisingly, the foliage along the trail was amazing.
