Hike: Mt. WilsonDate: 9/2/00

The second half of this trail is 3.5 miles and 2500' of elevation. I remember the second time I hiked Mt. Wilson (with Doug when I injured my knee), it was quite definitely warmer (even though it was Thanksgiving weekend) and I remember Doug and I stopping every 10-15 minutes to rest on the steeper sections. The cool weather was very helpful and I didn't stop for more than 20 seconds at a time on the way up. I definitely felt like I was in the zone and hiked quickly, all things considered. I finished this section of the trail in 1 hour 45 minutes. So, overall, I hiked the 6.6 miles (with the 4500' elevation gain!) in 3 hours 10 minutes which includes my rest break at Orchard Camp. I was very satisfied with this accomplishment. |

The view from up top wasn't all that great because it was too foggy/cloudy at the top. As I was leaving, it was clearing and it probably cleared up nicely, but I didn't want to stick around and wait for it. Plus, I had dinner plans. After taking some pictures, resting, and eating at the top, I started on my way back. I'm always a little restless to get back and I don't find the return hike as interesting. Plus, I was feeling cool. So, I started my return hike back by running the first 20 minutes back down. That always gets my blood going. Then my legs felt pretty tired and I hiked the rest of the way down and out. |
