Day 2: Hidden Canyon to Carmel River Camp to Miller Canyon Camp
Distance: 7 miles one way
Elevation: 2000' to 1200' to 2200'
On this segment of the hike, I had to cross the Carmel and Miller Canyon rivers. (Carmel River above) over 40 times and 12 times in the first 30 minutes! Carmel River Camp was a very popular camp because it is accesible from the north from the San Pedro dam. The trail along Miller Canyon is not heavily traveled (I didn't see anyone) and the trail isn't particularly easy to follow. I was the only one in camp...ahh, the solitude. I must have arrived into camp right at the height of all the mosquitos. It was fairly chilly at night and I went full mummy mode in my sleeping bag.
