Oh, at about 12:30pm or so we decided to take a quick run up to Napa. It sure is nice to be able to go to wine country on a whim. We're so spoiled.

We decided to go to Turnbull. Great value priced wines. Picked up some Old Bull Red, Sauvignon Blanc, Viogner, and Black Label.

Stopped by Mumm to get some sparkling wine. It was a total zoo there (so service was poor) and the wine wasn't even that great. We did the DVX flight ('94, '97, '98). Liked the '94 best, but in general were fairly bland and uninteresting. Disappointing because both of our memories of DVX from many years ago was that it was much better. We also tried a flight of their Pinot Noir since we (and probably a lot of winos) are on a bit of a Pinot push ever since Sideways. I assume sparkling wine manufacturers are jumping on that bandwagon and it's easy enough since they already often produce Pinot for their sparkling wine. In any case, we didn't even consume half of each tasting and left. We won't be back at Mumm for a long time...

We decided to stop by Vine Cliff, since neither of us had ever been there. It was great since it was by appointment and we were the only two there. It was basically like getting our own private tour and tasting.

This is the crush pad.

In the cellar.

Personally, I thought the wines were decent. The Private Stock Cabernet was surprisingly very drinkable. The Chardonnay's were decent enough. What really sold us was the experience was so much of a contrast to the nightmare at Mumm.
